Cali
Cali, officially Santiago de Cali, is the
capital of Valle del Cauca and the third most populous city in Colombia. It has
an area of 564 km² and a length
of 17 km from north to south and 12 km from east to west. The city is part of
Metropolitan Santiago de Cali, along with neighboring municipalities to ésta.5
It was founded on July 25, 1536 by Sebastián de Belalcázar, which makes it one
of the oldest cities in America.
It is also the main sports center in
Colombia. It was the only Colombian city to host the Pan American Games, seven
World Track Cycling Stops the World Figure Skating Championships and the ninth
edition of the World Games, being the first Latin American city to be hosting
this event.
He has been named by the best singers of
Salsa in the world as "The World Capital of Salsa" because despite
being of Cuban, or Puerto Rico, is in Cali where it has become more popular.
Santiago de Cali is one of the oldest cities
in Colombia and the Americas. Its foundation dates back to 1536 hands
conquistador Sebastián de Belalcázar just three years after the foundation of
Cartagena de Indias (1533), two years before the founding of Santa Fe de Bogota
(1538), eleven years of Santa Marta (1525) and 26 years after the founding of
the first Hispanic population on the continent: Santa María la Antigua del
Darién (1510), disappeared.
